A growing collection of books about countries, cultures, people, human connection, expat life, digital nomadism, remote work and the different ways we build a life around the world.
The books featured here are selected through my own interests, reading preferences and editorial research rather than simply because they are popular or highly ranked. Some help explain a country before you visit it, while others explore identity, relationships, migration, work, loneliness, belonging or what it means to live somewhere new.
The aim is not to build an enormous list of books for the sake of having one. The City Theory Library is designed as a curated reading space, where collections grow around the same questions we explore across the rest of the site.
The City Theory Library brings together personal book recommendations, themed reading collections and editorial reviews connected to the subjects we already explore across The City Theory. Selections reflect my own preferences and research, and some articles may contain affiliate links where relevant.
Not Just What to Read, but Why It Is Worth Reading
A good book can explain a place in a way a standard travel guide rarely does. History, memoir, fiction, sociology and personal essays can all reveal why a city feels the way it does, how people understand their own culture and what outsiders often miss.
That is the idea behind this library. Some collections are built around a specific country, while others will focus on experiences that cross borders: moving abroad, working remotely, making friends as an adult, living alone, changing careers or trying to understand a culture from the inside.

A Curated Library Rather Than an Endless Book List
The City Theory Library is based on personal interest, books I find genuinely useful or interesting, and research around the subjects covered on the site. A book does not need to be new, famous or a bestseller to be included.
Some collections may include books I have read myself, while others bring together titles I have researched for a specific subject. Where that distinction matters, it will be made clear in the individual article. The goal is to keep each collection useful, selective and connected to the topic rather than filling pages with dozens of interchangeable recommendations.
